The Problem
IDESG Moving Forward 2017.08.26
Problem: IDESG has had too little participation and too little funding.
Conclusion: IDESG is not meeting the needs of potential contributors and funders.
Some solutions
Two area where an ID Ecosystem can thrive:
- Regulated Industries (Government, Health Care, Finance).
- Unregulated Industries (everyone else – the largest number of users)
Support for regulated industries:
- TSCP is an example, but they have hit a wall.
- FIXS is an example, same problem.
- Health care as a mandate – fertile ground.
- Finance – everyone has tried it, very resistant to change.
- Under 13 – COPPA – Minors’ trust framework – moving forward.
Support for unregulated industries
- IdPs the big ones (Microsoft, Google, Facebook) don’t need us. The little ones need more attractive story for users.
- RP everyone wants to own the customers, but only Amazon has a convincing story.
- We need to focus on the guys that need more users, both IdP and RP.
Where to focus.
- Regulated where we can partner.
- Unregulated to help any Digital Entity get more users.
What to do.
- Build a demonstration of the value of an Identity Ecosystem with our own web site.
- All users (members or not) get a signin account with access to other sites.
- All users can have one or more federated accounts (social, cell phone, password)
- We allow access by any register IdP by name, encourage signup for the all.
- We show RPs how to be compliant, especially with the GDPR.
- We provide an API for access to the list of all registrants.
- We provide access to OpenID sites for members
- Fix the base line functional requirements.
- Broken links
- Revisit all supplemental guidance.
- More understandable web site (easier for users.)
- Improve registration experience for sites.
