The items in the table below are intended to provide a Domain Metamodel for representing and discussing the taxonomy relevant to the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group.
We will present a list of Core Concepts that represent the fundamental "types" in the Metamodel. Other Concepts will be instances of those types, and are presented below the Core Concepts.
Core Concepts
The following core concepts identify the root classes of the metamodel.
Concept | Definition |

Entity | An individual physical object, person or organization. |
Artifact | A logical or physical object developed by human craft. |
Role | A set of characteristic and expected behaviors of a human user. |
Use Case | An action being undertaken by and on behalf of a set of entities. |
Derived Concepts

Person | Entity | An individual Homo Sapiens. |
Non-Person Entity | Entity | An identifiable entity that is not a human. |
Organization | Non-Person Entity | A structure through which individuals cooperate to accomplish a goal. |
Data | Artifact | Machine readable representation of information. |
Software | Data | Data that executes in an Computing Device to drive a program |
Computing Device | Artifact | A machine (real or virtual) for performing calculations automatically (including, but not limited to, computer, servers, routers, switches, etc.) [NISTIR 7693] |
System | Artifact | A discrete set of information resources organized for the collection, processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dissemination, or disposition of information. [NISTIR 7693] |
