Covered Entities are both real-world entities and their digital representations that are covered by any one of: (1) Laws and Regulations of their respective jurisdictions, (2) Industry associations that gather to create a set of criteria that all voluntarily agreed to support.
Context
There are several cases of covered entities that come to mind that should be important to Identity Management'
- The US Cares Act and the resultant HIPAA laws and regulations apply to all medical care providers Electronic Health Records (EHR),
- The PKI Certificate Authorities and Browser providers have banned together in the CA/B forum to establish the rules for certificates that are created by the CAs and verified the browsers.
