Working Area for TFTM 01-05

Deliverable Name: Requirements Mapping and Analysis Paper
Document Control Code: TFTM 01-05
Deliverable Lead: Joe Grubbs, Binary Structures Corporation
Synopsis: A requirements analysis and mapping of trust framework components – governance, operations, business, legal, technical, privacy, audit, certification and other provisions - and operational processes – to assess their alignment with NSTIC/IDESG Guiding Principles. The analysis will inform the process of establishing trust marks based on TF components most aligned with IDESG/NSTIC Guiding Principles and support reuse of those components within the identity ecosystem.
Deliverable Audience: IDESG Participants and others collaboratively contributing to NSTIC/IDESG deliverables.
Work Plan and Outcomes: The requirements analysis and mapping will assess the alignment of trust framework components – business, legal and technical elements (which cover privacy, security, audit, user experience, certification and other provisions) and operational processes – with NSTIC/IDESG Guiding Principles.

TFTM 01-05 Work Plan:

  • Performed discovery research on model trust frameworks and trust mark activities to inform the TFTM 01-05 analysis and mapping effort [Ongoing through deliverable lifecycle]
  • Developed a draft analytic device and field tested the device based on a review of the CSDII NSTIC Pilot [By April 30, 2014]
  • Engage the Kantara Initiative to extend the draft TFTM 01-05 analytic device to take into account the unique requirements for certification authorities and other stakeholders [By April 30, 2014]
  • Conduct a “constructivist” review of the identified trust framework components using analytic frameworks from participating NSTIC Pilots (identified below) [By June 30, 2014]
  • Evaluate the TF components to identify common requirements and to extract the most aligned with IDESG/NSTIC Guiding Principles, operational and with the highest opportunity for reuse [By July 31, 2014]
  • Publish a white paper with IDESG documenting the findings from the requirements analysis and mapping assessment and recommendations for TFTM model [Draft to TFTM Committee by August 31, 2014]
  • Develop a TFTM Maturity Model describing the IDESG/NSTIC current, intermediate and future states for TFTM components [Draft to TFTM Committee by August 31, 2014]

The TFTM 01-05 working group will coordinate with NSTIC Pilots and other IDESG working groups engaged on research into trust marks, including the Georgia Tech Research Institute NSTIC Pilot, Internet2/InCommon’s Periodic Table of Trust Elements, the Transglobal Secure Collaboration Program (TSCP) NSTIC Pilot, the IDESG Functional Model Working Group, Open Identity Exchange (OIX), the Kantara Initiative and others.

TFTM 01-05 Outcomes:

  • TFTM Requirements Analysis and Mapping Paper
  • TFTM Maturity Model
Deliverable Initiation Process: The initial organization around Deliverable 01-05 began in December 2013; an introductory presentation outlining the proposed methodology and approach was made to the TFTM Committee on January 8, 2014; the kickoff meeting for the Deliverable 01-05 working group was held on January 14, 2014, during the IDESG 7th Plenary, Atlanta, GA.
